When removing the WAN-OPT service from a VMware HCX Service Mesh or Compute Profile, the following alert may be observed in vCenter Server associated with the HCX Interconnect appliance:
Agent unable to save configuration to disk: Error syncing firmware configuration: Fault cause: vmodl.fault.NotSupported
VMware HCX
When the WAN-OPT appliance is removed, HCX triggers a synchronization and reconfiguration process for the associated Interconnect (IX) appliance.
The alert is a transient event triggered by the temporary communication interruption or the reconfiguration of the IX appliance's synchronization agent during the removal process.
If the Service Mesh status returns to "Green" (Normal) after the operation, this message can be considered an expected side effect of the reconfiguration.
If the Service Mesh status is normal and there are no persistent errors, no specific action is required.
To verify the environment is functional, perform the following:
Check Service Mesh Status: Ensure the HCX Service Mesh displays a "Healthy" or "Green" status after the WAN-OPT removal is complete.
Verify Port Connectivity: Ensure TCP/UDP Port 902 is open between the HCX-IX appliance and the ESXi hosts, as this port is required for synchronization tasks.
Test Migration: Perform a test migration (e.g., Bulk Migration or vMotion) to confirm that the Interconnect service is operating correctly.
If migrations complete successfully and the alert does not recur, the message was a one-time event during the removal process and can be safely ignored.
If you encounter issues such as migration failures, refer to KB311834 to verify that the connectivity requirements between each component are met.
