Issue/Introduction

Symptoms :

When attempting to upgrade to VMware ESXi 8.0 Update 3g (Build 24859861), users may encounter an advisory warning on the Broadcom Support Portal or in release notes stating:

"Attention !!! vSAN File Service users are advised NOT to upgrade to ESXi 8.0U3e and later releases until further notice about an upcoming quarterly Patch release."

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0U3e-g

vSAN File Services

Resolution

It is safe to proceed with the upgrade if your environment does not use vSAN File Services. However Broadcom recommends upgrading to 8.0U3h and higher.

The advisory is specific to the "vSAN File Service" feature (NFS/SMB shares hosted directly from the vSAN cluster). If this feature is not enabled or configured, the underlying issue does not impact your cluster operations.

How to verify vSAN File Service status:

  1. Log into the vSphere Client.

  2. Navigate to your vSAN Cluster > Configure.

  3. Under vSAN, select Services.

  4. Locate File Service and ensure the status is Disabled.
