LVM Snapshot based auto-backup of vCenter Server will not be taken during vCenter patching

Issue/Introduction

The script to grow disk space (autogrow.sh) isn't working because there are old LVM snapshots that need to be cleared first.

We observe the following errors in  /var/log/vmware/applmgmt/lvm_operation.log

ERROR:__main__:Failed to complete the workflow; status: Failed
ERROR:__main__:Error occurred while performing pre-check; error: {Failed to complete workflow}
ERROR:__main__:Error occurred while taking LVM snapshot; error: {Failed to complete workflow}

Performing lvs ( logical volume scan ), provides the following data.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

When upgrading vCenter Server the LVM snapshot cleanup workflow fails to execute automatically due to which the stale LVM snapshots are present and the new LVM snapshot is not created.

Resolution

Execute the LVMCleanup.py mentioned in kb KB370818 to clear all the created snapshot volumes and re-create the lvm_snapshot logical volume.
