Issue/Introduction

VMware Live Site Recovery Configuration Import/Export through Impex Tool (CLI) doesn’t generate the Site Recovery Manager's configuration data in an XML file while exporting

Environment

VMware Live Site Recovery 9.0.4

Cause

The VLSR CLI impex tool is not compatible with a newer version of Java

Resolution

Follow the below steps to add a flag to work with the new version of Java:

  1. Login into the VLR appliance using "admin" credentials
  2. Change user to "root"
  3. Navigate to /opt/vmware/etc/vmware-dr/secrets/
  4. List the files and note down the local service account file name which starts with "sa-XXXXX" and remote service account which starts with "remote-sa-xxxxxx"
  5. Navigate to /opt/vmware/impex
  6. Run " java --add-opens=java.base/java.lang=ALL-UNNAMED -jar import-export.jar --exportInteractive "
  7. Enter the below details:
    1. Host name or IP address of a Lookup Service
    2. Port Number (or press Enter in case you use the default - 443)
    3. Accept the SHA-1 Thumbprint
    4. Select "Yes" to use service account instead of the local vCenter credentials
    5. Enter service account file path: "/opt/vmware/etc/vmware-dr/secrets/sa-xxxxxxxxxx"

     8. Once the remote SRM server is discovered, enter the below details

    1. Select "Yes" to use service account instead of the local vCenter credentials
    2. Enter service account file path: "/opt/vmware/etc/vmware-dr/secrets/remote-sa-xxxxx"

For Example:

Enter host name or IP address of a Lookup Service: x.x.x.x
Enter port (or press Enter in case you use the default - 443):
Host lvn-x-x-x-x.net has untrusted certificate with SHA-1 Thumbprint: XX:YY: .
Accept thumbprint? (y/n):y
Use Service Account to log in on lvn-x-x-x-x.net? (y/n):y
Enter service account file path:/opt/vmware/etc/vmware-dr/secrets/sa-xxxxxxxxxx
Establishing connection...
One SRM server found: SITE-x-x-x-x.net
Use Service Account to log in on lvn-y-y-y-y.net? (y/n):y
Enter service account file path:/opt/vmware/etc/vmware-dr/secrets/remote-sa-xxxxx
