Issue/Introduction

  • Trying to delete an unwanted NSX manager from the UI
  • Manually Deployed NSX manager appliances show the delete option as grayed out

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

When a manager is deployed as manual, you can't removed it from the NSX ui due to the delete option being grayed out

Resolution

STEPS

  1. Log to NSX
  2. Go to system / appliances
  3. Click on View details on the on the NSX manager that we want to delete
    •  Confirm this is  a manually deployed manager
  4. Once confirming this is a manually deploy manager, open an SSH session to an NSX manager that is not being deleted as admin
  5. Run the following command
    • get cluster status
      • NOTE: Make sure to get the UUID and confirm that we have the correct UUID of the faulty NSX manager.
  6. After confirming the the bad manager UUID  run the following command
    •  detach node <failed_node_UUID>
  7. To confirm that the NSX manager has been removed run  get cluster status again and we should not be able to see the UUID anymore on the CLI or the NSX manager on the ui.
