Issue/Introduction

When trying to view vSAN resync information in the vCenter Web Client, it throws an error: "Problem loading resyncing objects data"

One or more hosts of the vSAN cluster are in a not responding state due to being powered off due to hardware failures and left in vCenter inventory

Environment

VMware vSAN (All Versions)

Cause

If a host is powered off for a prolonged period of time, but is still in vCenter, API calls are still made to the host to check on it's status and get backed up which can impact the entire vCenter.  This also causes vSAN Health Data to not display properly as the vSAN Primary node is still reaching out to those hosts and waiting for updates from them as they're still part of the vSAN cluster.

Resolution

If a host is going to be down for a prolonged period of time due to hardware failures, it is recommended to decommission the host from the cluster before powering off and then removing from vCenter inventory.

If this is not possible, then it is still recommended to remove the host from vCenter inventory until the host is back in production.

Note: If this is a SDDC environment, or VxRail cluster, work with those respected support teams to remove the nodes from inventory as there may be additional steps needed.

Once the host is removed from vCenter inventory, vSAN Health Data should appear normally.
