Issue/Introduction

  • Alerts appear on multiple ESXi hosts despite no active issues being reported.

  • The underlying ESXi hosts show no active alerts when checked directly via the Host Client.

  • The vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) does not report any corresponding hardware or system alarms for these hosts.

  • Manually clearing the alerts don't work as the alerts re-appear shortly after being acknowledged or cleared.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.5.

Resolution

Identify Duplicates: Search the Inventory for the affected hostnames to confirm if multiple instances of the same object exist.

Before starting the workaround below take a snapshot of Aria Operation as per Snapshot Creation in VMware Aria Operations

  1. Log in to the VMware Aria Operations user interface or https://FQDN-Node-or-Ip/ui

  2. Navigate to Operations > Configuration > Inventory Management.

  3. Click the Show Columns icon (look at the bottom of the left menu). Ensure that the Creation Time and Internal ID checkboxes are selected. This helps differentiate duplicate objects.

  4. Click Adapter Instance from the middle menu and select the Target vCenter Adapter Instance.

  5. Use the search bar to locate the affected ESXi hostnames.

  6. Locate objects that share the same IP address or hostname but have different Creation Time and Internal IDs.

Note: Use the "Creation Time" and "Collection State" columns to identify which entry is the current active host and which is the stale duplicate.

  7. Select the stale duplicate entry (the one that is not collecting data) and click the Delete icon to remove it from the inventory.

  8. Force a refresh of the inventory to ensure only the active host object remains and that the "ghost" alerts are cleared.

  9. If the alerts remain active after these steps, please contact Global Support (GS) for further assistance.
