Issue/Introduction

  • SDDC Manager is not installed.
  • The vCenter version is 8.0Ub2 or greater.
  • The VCF licence is correctly applied in vCenter as per the following KB 319282.
  • From within NSX, System > Licenses, doesn't show the licence.
  • There are no errors in the vCenter or NSX user interfaces to indicate an issue.
  • From NSX, running the following API doesn't show the licence.

    curl -k -u admin -X GET "https://localhost/api/v1/licenses"

  • Manual sync of the licence from NSX does not resolve the issue.

    curl -k -u admin -X POST "https://localhost/policy/api/v1/licenses/vcf-licenses"

  • NSX Manager shows the following logging.

    /var/log/proton/nsxapi.log
[Timestamp]  INFO WrapperStartStopAppMain FeatureAwareApplicationContextInitializer 2321989 - [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-manager" level="INFO"subcomp="manager"] Feature UnrestrictedSKU is disabled

  • The OVA used to deploy NSX has "le.ova" in the name.

    nsx-unified-appliance-<version>.<build>-le.ova

Environment

VMware NSX
VMware vCenter

Cause

VMware vSphere 8 Enterprise Plus for VCF licence is not compatible with the Limited Export version of NSX.

Resolution

There is no direct upgrade path from a Limited Export to a full version of NSX. NSX must be reinstalled using a non-limited export build.
