Issue/Introduction

  • Disk utilization increases unexpectedly after converting replications to RTVMs in VMware Cloud Director Availability.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.3.x

Cause

When converting to an RTVM there is another placement assessment, which may result in a relocation of the replication and increased utilization as disks are being copied. Once the moves have been completed, it is expected that the total utilization should reduce to a similar level as before.

Resolution

If possible, monitor the storage allocation and validate the utilization once all moves have been completed. If it is necessary to redistribute items, then adjust the location by selecting an appropriate storage policy, as discussed in the following:
