Issue/Introduction

Outbound emails to @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com recipients are rejected with the following error:

554 5. 7. 1. Message rejected due to local policy. Please visit https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204137

Cause

This rejection is generated by the recipient mail server (Apple iCloud) and is not a block within the Broadcom infrastructure.

Resolution

The rejection occurs at the final hop between the Broadcom MTA and Apple's MTA.
Because the rejection is based on Apple's internal policies, Broadcom cannot white-list the sender or bypass the filter. The following steps are recommended:

  1. Review Apple guidelines: Visit the link provided in the error (Apple Postmaster Support) to ensure the sending domain meets all bulk mail and authentication requirements (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  2. Review email samples: Check if the affected traffic contains marketing material, automated notifications, or content that could be flagged as bulk or spam.
  3. Contact Apple: The sender or the recipient domain administrator must contact Apple Support to request a review of the "local policy" block, as this is a third-party policy enforcement.
