Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to power off a vApp in VMware Cloud Director(VCD), the following error is displayed:

[ ########-####-####-####-############ ] The entity <vApp Name> is in an invalid state for operation poweroff. - com.vmware.ssdc.util.LMException: com.vmware.ssdc.library.exceptions.UndeployVMException: Error on power off or suspend. - Internal Server Error - Failed to power off the VM - The object 'vim.VirtualMachine:vm-########' has already been deleted or has not been completely created
  • VM and the vApp are in powered ON state in the VCD UI.
  • Backing VM in vCenter(VC) was deleted.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1.1

Cause

The issue occurs when the backing VM is directly deleted in vCenter while the VM is powered ON and working in VCD. This causes an inconsistency between VCD and VC.

Resolution

The workaround for this issue requires modification of the Cloud Director database.

For assistance, contact Broadcom Support and note this Article ID (423104) in the problem description. For more information, see Creating and managing Broadcom support cases .
