Issue/Introduction

In a VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) 9.0 environment, users may require specific infrastructure configurations that are not supported by the automated VCF Installer. These scenarios include:

  • Using vSphere Standard Switches (VSS) instead of vSphere Distributed Switches (vDS).

  • Applying custom or non-standard settings for vSphere DRS and vSphere HA.

  • Utilizing iSCSI storage as the primary storage for the management cluster.

  • Configuring a 2-node vSAN cluster with the vCenter Appliance residing on the same cluster.

For environments requiring the flexibility mentioned above, a manual deployment of VCF Operations is necessary.

Environment

VMware vSphere Foundation  9.0
VCF Operations 9.0

Cause

The VCF Installer requires a standardized infrastructure configuration (such as vDS) to automate the setup. It does not support the manual customization of networking, cluster settings, or specific storage types during the automated deployment process.

Resolution

For vSphere Foundation 9.0, it is supported to manually deploy VCF Operations using the OVA file and then register the vCenter.

Important: This manual deployment method is only supported for vSphere Foundation (VVF) environments. It is not supported for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployments
