Issue/Introduction

When attempting to perform a manual backup of the vCenter Server Appliance (vCSA) via the Virtual Appliance Management Interface (VAMI), the operation may fail during the initial connection phase.

Users will see the following error message within the backup wizard: Failed to create backup directory on backup server - ERROR: IS_EXISTS request failed. httpcode: 301

Cause

The error occurs because of an issue in the specific command used by the appliance to create or verify the backup folder on the remote server. The request triggers an unexpected HTTP 301 (Moved Permanently) response from the backup destination, which the vCenter backup service is unable to follow or process, leading to a failure in directory preparation.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in VMware vCenter 8.0 Update 3h.

The updated version includes a fix for the command logic, ensuring that the directory creation and verification on the backup server proceed as expected without triggering redirect errors.
