SNMP walk failed on NSX edge node

Issue/Introduction

• The SNMP service state on edge node is stopped as seen by "get service snmp"  
   
• On log file systemctl_--all_--no-paper_status: 
    you see active (exited) as active state indicating hung status:
     
      VMware-snmpd.service - LSB: VMware SNMP agent

       Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/vmware-snmpd; generated)

       Active: active (exited) since Mon 2025-03-24 10:11:18 UTC; 8 months 25 days ago

Environment

VMware NSX 4.1.x

Cause

 SNMP service is not running on NSX edge node. 

Resolution

Restart the SNMP service on the problematic NSX edge node by running below commands:

1. Login to admin user, stop and start the service.
     > stop service snmp
     > start service snmp
2. Check the status of the SNMP service by running the command get service snmp as admin user or /etc/init.d/vmware-snmpd status as root user.
