Issue/Introduction

In vCenter Server, when an alarm is triggered (for example, disk usage exceeds a threshold), an administrator may remediate the condition and bring the value back below the threshold. However, an alarm clear notification (transition to Green) may not be sent in the following scenario:

  • The alarm was manually Reset to Green from Monitor > All Issues or Triggered Alarms in vCenter.
  • The underlying issue was resolved after the alarm reset.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Resolution

This is expected behavior. 

If an alarm is manually Reset to Green before the system clears it automatically, the alarm status is changed to Green at that time, and no “cleared” event/notification is generated for the later remediation.
