Issue/Introduction

After applying a VC Pricing Policy in VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x, the Summary | Metering | Total Price value increases unexpectedly

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

This issue occurs because a VC Pricing Policy was applied to a virtual machine managed by VMware Aria Automation.

When Aria Automation manages a VM, it expects rates defined within its own Price Cards; applying a standard VC policy causes a conflict, resulting in unexpected rate calculations.

Resolution

  1. Create a new Price Card in VMware Aria Automation with the expected rates.

  2. Assign the policy to the specific project associated with the virtual machine (VM) within VMware Aria Operations.

  3. Stop and start the target Aria Automation adapter instance in VMware Aria Operations.

    Go to Administration > Integrations.

Select the Adapter: Find and select the specific VMware Aria Automation adapter instance you want to manage

Stop Collection: Click the ellipsis, then Stop Collecting to halt data collection for that instance.

Wait Briefly: Allow a few seconds (or 2-3 minutes for adapter to fully terminate processes).

Start Collection: Click the Start Collecting button to resume data collection.

Verify: Check the status indicators; they should turn green or show active collection after a short time.

  4. Allow time for recalculation. The price will be corrected during the next pricing engine run. This typically occurs within 1 to 24 hours in VMware Aria Operations.
