Copying asa-packages from Tanzu Registry fails with i/o timeout error

Issue/Introduction

When you try to copy the Azure Spring Apps asa-packages bundle from the Tanzu Registry you see the following error:

Get "https://registry.tanzu.vmware.com/v2/": dial tcp ###.###.###.###:443: i/o timeout

Example:

imgpkg copy --bundle registry.tanzu.vmware.com/azure-spring-apps/asa-packages:v1.6.3 --to-repo myrepo.example.com/azure-spring-apps/asa-packages
imgpkg: Error: Fetching image:
  Error while preparing a transport to talk with the registry:
    Unable to create round tripper:
      Get "https://registry.tanzu.vmware.com/v2/": dial tcp ###.###.###.###:443: i/o timeout

Cause

The URL registry.tanzu.vmware.com has been decommissioned

Resolution

Since registry.tanzu.vmware.com has been decommissioned, you can download the asa-packages bundle from the Broadcom Support Portal under the Azure Spring Apps product.

After you download the asa-packages tar file you can copy it to your internal repo.

Example:

imgpkg copy --tar asa-packages-v1.6.3.tar --to-repo myrepo.example.com/azure-spring-apps/asa-packages
