Issue/Introduction

After configuring vCenter linking in VMware Cloud Foundation Operations 9.0 and adding two vCenter instances, both instances display an 'Active' status. However, upon logging into the vCenter Web GUI of either instance, only the second vCenter (<vCenter 2 FQDN>) is visible. The first vCenter (<vCenter 1 FQDN>) is not displayed in the interface.

Environment

VCF  Operations 9.x

Cause

This issue occurs because inconsistent or stale configuration information is retained in the background, causing a synchronization failure between the instances.

Resolution

The linking relationship must be reset to clear the stale configuration data and synchronize the environment.

  1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Foundation Operations interface.

  2. Navigate to Infrastructure Operations > Configurations.

  3. Under the Logical Groupings section, click on vCenter Linking.

  4. Click on the affected Group name.

  5. Click on RESET LINKING.

Note: The 'RESET LINKING' action performs the following operations:

  • Forced Unlink: API calls are sent to the linked vCenters to forcibly break the existing logical linking relationship, cleaning up any potentially stale configuration data.

  • Configuration Reapplication: The full linking process is re-run, ensuring all configuration files and trust relationships are freshly applied and synchronized based on the current VMware Cloud Foundation Operations settings.
