"Guest OS from Tools" metrics populating as "none"

Issue/Introduction

• In Aria Operations Guest OS metrics is not populating
  • summary|Guest Operating System|Guest OS from Tools shows "none"
    
    
    
    
    
  • From Aria Operations VM summary page, shows OS as "none"
    
    
    
    
    
  • Validate from the vCenter mob page whether the guest OS and VMware tools status
    
    
• Ensure VMware tools are installed and running for the virtual machine in the vCenter
  
  

Environment

• VMware Aria Operations 8.16.x
• VMware Aria Operations 8.17.x
• VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x
• vCenter 8.x
• vCenter 9.x

Cause

VMware tools are not running or not installed in the guest operating system (Windows/Linux).

Resolution

1. If VMware tools are not running in the guest operating system (Windows/Linux)
   
   
   1. Download VMware tools from Broadcom support portal
   2. Install the VMware tools 
      
      
2. If VMware tools are running in the guest operating system (Windows/Linux)
   
   
   1. Restart the VMware tools services from guest operating system (Windows/Linux)
   2. Upgrade the VMware tools
