Issue/Introduction

  • There's requirement to analyze IO throughput of virtual machines and identify those with highest IO throughput consumption.

Resolution

One can leverage Views in Aria Operations to analyze and sort storage IO metrics, which makes it possible to quickly identify virtual machines with high IO bandwidth consumption.

The recommended approach is as follows:

  1. Create a new View in vROps with Subject set to Virtual Machine

  2. Add storage IO-related metrics, such as:

    • Virtual Disk | Read Throughput

    • Virtual Disk | Write Throughput

    • Virtual Disk | Throughput

  3. Select the appropriate rollup type (e.g., Max / Avg / Latest) based on your analysis objective.

  4. Sort the results in descending order by the Throughput metric to identify VMs with the highest IO bandwidth usage.
