Issue/Introduction

vCenter reports the warning "Registration/unregistration of third-party IO filter storage provider fails on a host."

Using the command /etc/init.d/iofiltervpd status the  iofiltervpd is not running on the host

 

In /var/log/vmware/vmware-sps/sps.log of vCenter Server:

<Date and Time> [Timer-6] ERROR opId=sps-Main-xxxxx-277 com.vmware.vim.storage.common.VmodlErrorStrings - Unable to find the storage provider with provider id xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxx
<Date and Time> [Timer-6] ERROR opId=sps-Main-xxxxxx-277 com.vmware.vim.sms.policy.SyncPolicyManager - [getProvider] Unable to find the storage provider with provider id xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxx

 

Environment

VMware ESXi 8.x

Cause

iofiltervpd is not running on the host

Resolution

Start iofiltervpd service
   /etc/init.d/iofiltervpd start

Restart management agents on host
    /etc/init.d/hostd restart 
    /etc/init.d/vpxa restart

Reset alerts to green
