Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps for creating alarm definition at the cluster level & sending email notification whenever HA related issue is observed.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Resolution

To create an alarm definition related to HA at cluster level follow the below steps.

1. Log in to the vCenter Server using the vSphere Client.

2. Click on the DataCenter.

3. Click Configure, then select Alarm Definitions.

4. Click Add.

5. Enter the alarm name.

6. Select Clusters as the target type, then click NEXT.

7. From the trigger drop-down menu, under High Availability select vSphere HA agent unavailable.

8. Click Select severity to choose  either Show as Warning or Show as Critical from the drop-down menu, click NEXT.

9. Select other notification types as desired - some are listed below
  a.Send email notifications
  b.Send SNMP traps
  c.Run Script

10.Choose from the list of options of how to be notified and select 'Next.'

11.Click 'Next' to review the summary of the new alarm.

12. Review settings, 'Enable' the alarm, and select 'Create.'
