Issue/Introduction

vMotion operations fail with a specific error message. The error indicates a discrepancy in network configurations.

Error : "The destination network on the destination host is configured for different offload or security policies than the source network on the source host"

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
VMware vCenter Server 7.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

Security policy settings on networks differ between the source and target hosts.

Resolution

Configure the target host or port group to match the source settings.
Follow these steps to resolve the mismatch:

  1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Select the target host's virtual switch  or target port group.
  3. Navigate to "Edit Settings" and select "Security".
  4. Change "Promiscuous mode" / "MAC address changes" / "Forged transmits" to match the source setting (e.g., "Accept" / "Reject").
  5. Save the configuration.
  6. Retry vMotion to confirm the migration completes successfully.
