Issue/Introduction

• No physical network adapter is visible on a virtual switch.
  
• When configuring physical network adapter (vmnic), it reports following alert:
  

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.x
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

• This issue occurs when all physical network adapters are currently available but unassigned (unclaimed), meaning the virtual switch has no physical network adapter configured in active or standby state.

Resolution

• To make a physical network adapter visible in the vCenter's virtual switch configuration, you must first set that adapter to either the active or standby state.
• Once the physical network adapter (vmnic) is added in active or standby state no alert will be reported when adding the physical network adapter on the virtual switch.
