Issue/Introduction

You may notice the following vCenter banner.
Transition from vLCM Baselines to vLCM Images in a VCF environment should be performed via SDDC manager only. Please review https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article?articleNumber=385617.

Manually click "X" to close the banner, however when refresh vCenter UI, the notification appears again.

Environment

VCF 9.0.1

Cause

The notification serves as a gentle reminder and intentionally made permanent.

Resolution

IMPORTANT NOTE: Repercussions of disabling the property:

- Stop new announcements from being posted to vCenter
- Stop automatic refresh of existing announcements
- Safety mechanism removed: the notification warns user against performing vLCM transitions via vCenter UI in VCF environments. The operation should be done only via SDDC-Manager.
- Risk of breaking SDDC Manager workflows

Steps to disable notifications:

  1. Edit the properties file
    vi /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm-app/conf/application-prod.properties
  2. Change the property
    lcm.announcement.message.enabled=false
  3. Restart the LCM service
    systemctl restart lcm

- Existing announcements in vCenter will remain until they expire (24 hours by default) or are manually removed
- After expiry, they won't be recreated if the property is false
