Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter Server Machine SSL certificate was successfully replaced with Custom certificate. However, Chrome browser still shows the connection as "Not secure".
  • Selecting "Not secure" button in the browser shows the message "Your connection to this site is not secure".

  • Accessing the vCenter Server UI from Microsoft Edge browser doesn't show the same issue, it shows "Connection is secure".

Cause

  • This issue can be caused due to browser cached information of the vCenter Server when it was running with the self-signed certificate.
  • Chrome shows the status "Certificate is valid" which confirms that the Certificate chain returned by the vCenter Server is valid, however browser is unable to mark it as trusted due to stale cache information.

Resolution

Delete the Cache information from Chrome browser.

  1. From the Chrome settings menu, select "Delete Browsing Data".
  2. Select "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached imaged and files".

Note: Uncheck "Browsing history" and "Download history".

  3. Select duration as "All time".
  4. Click on Delete data.

Note: This will delete Cache & Cookies information of all the sites opened from the Chrome Browser, not just for the vCenter Server.

  5. Close all the open browser windows
  6. Access the vCenter Server FQDN from a new browser window.
