Issue/Introduction

When running Clarity upgrade, it's slow in the below area and never moves forward:

Upgrade is stuck on bootstrap (example) :
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask) Process: /opt/clarity/home/database/sql/GENERATE_CMN_SEQ_TABLES.xml
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask)
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask) Total time: 0H:0M:0S
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask) Bootstrapping ODF...
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask) Heap Size: 2560m
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask) Capturing metrics in: /opt/clarity/home/logs/bootstrap.xml
11/15/25 11:38 AM (ExecTask) Loading registered objects for custom attribute bootstrap...

How can we troubleshoot this?

Environment

Any Supported Clarity Releases

Cause

Bootstrap is a time consuming operation, there may be data and environmental factors

Resolution

Bootstrap may be slow on large databases - check and compare how long the same action took on a lower / another environment

Large DB:

  • If it took several hours and completed, you should expect similar timeframes - our recommendation would be to allow for the same amount of time
  • One way to speed up bootstrap is to add JVM to the install process as per Large Datasets Upgrade

Smaller DB:

  • If any other environment completed fast, then the issue is likely environmental
  • Ensure you perform a full rollback and check bootstrap logs in Clarity for any errors
  • Check for any queries blocked on database level
  • Check for OS level locks
  • If database is not shared, you can consider rebooting the app and DB server before retrying if an environmental issue is suspected
