Issue/Introduction

On ESXi hosts, you may observe the following events occurring together:

  • RAM disk 'tmp' is full.
  • Error (1) saving state to /bootbank

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

Cause

The /tmp RAM disk is out of space.
When the system attempts to perform the automatic backup and /tmp does not have sufficient free space, the /bootbank error is generated.

Resolution

To increase the free space in the /tmp directory, referencing resources such as 'ESXi host not responding , /tmp folder shows high usage(90%-100%)'.
