When registering VMware HCX with vCenter Server or SSO domain, the following error occurs:
"Lookup Service is not reachable at https://vCenter_FQDN. Please enter a valid SSO url - https://<domain|ip>"
The registration process fails to complete, preventing HCX from integrating with the vCenter authentication infrastructure.
Steps to validate:
Run the VCF Diagnostic Tool for vSphere to check for SSO service issues. The tool may report stale entries in the Lookup Service database and recommend running the lsdoctor --stalefix.
For tool usage, see Using the VCF Diagnostic Tool for vSphere.
Stale or corrupted entries exist in the vCenter Lookup Service database, preventing HCX from successfully connecting to SSO services during registration.
Step 1: Create a vCenter snapshot
The snapshot requirements depend on the vCenter topology:
For snapshot guidance, see VMware vCenter in Enhanced Linked Mode pre-changes snapshot (online or offline) best practice.
Step 2: Run the 'lsdoctor' utility
Execute the 'lsdoctor' tool to clean stale Lookup Service entries:
python lsdoctor.py -s
The -s parameter performs the -s|--stalefix operation to remove corrupted entries from the Lookup Service database.
For detailed usage instructions, see Using the 'lsdoctor' Tool.
Step 3: Retry HCX registration
After lsdoctor completes successfully, retry registering HCX with the vCenter/SSO domain.
