Issue/Introduction

When a user attempts to move (drag-and-drop) a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) subnet to another VPC within the vCenter (VC) inventory, the operation fails and returns an error message indicating the operation method is disabled:

"operation failed the method is disabled by com.vmware.nsx.management.nsx t"

The user's notes that the message implies the function is merely disabled and could be enabled, leading to confusion about its availability.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation
VMware NSX

Cause

  • This behavior is intended as a mechanism to enforce supported network management policies within the vCenter UI.
  • Manually moving a VPC subnet between different VPCs is not a supported administrative operation through the vCenter user interface.

Resolution

  • The current behavior is the intended product design to prevent unsupported changes to the NSX VPC topology.
  • The product team is aware that this message can be misleading to the end user. Efforts are underway in future releases to provide a more intuitive and clearer error message, such as "Operation not supported".
