VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • vDS is configured with LACP, and the management portgroup on the vDS is configured to use the LAG
  • When vmk0 (or whichever vmkernel is the management interface) is migrated from vSS to vDS, it fails with error:
"An error occurred while communicating with the remote host. Network configuration change disconnected the host <hostname> from vCenter server and has been rolled back."

Environment

VMware vCenter Server with LACP

Cause

vSphere Networking Rollback

Host networking rollbacks occur when an invalid change is made to the networking configuration for the connection with vCenter Server. Every network change that disconnects a host also triggers a rollback.

Resolution

Ensure the LACP configuration on the physical switch is correct.

From an SSH or console session to the host, run:

esxcli network vswitch dvs vmware lacp status get

The output will list the vDS and the vmnics associated with the LAG.

The State field for each vmnic will show Bundled if the LAG is correctly configured on the physical switch.  If the output shows Independent, Standalone, or any other State, the LACP configuration on the physical switch is not set correctly.
