Issue/Introduction
The new Outlook is available from Microsoft and you want to know if Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) or Symantec Endpoint Security (SES) have new Outlook Plug-in support. Below is an FAQ.
Environment
- Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.3.x and 16.0.
- Symantec Endpoint Security 14.3.x and 16.0.
Resolution
Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) versions 14 and 16 do not support Microsoft’s new Outlook for Windows nor will they support it in the future. SEP 14 continues to ship with the plug-in that supports previous versions of Outlook. However, SEP 16 does not support the original Outlook plug-in.
FAQ
Does Broadcom intend to support the new Outlook for Windows in SEP?
No. Broadcom will not be supporting the new Outlook for Windows with a new plug-in. Adoption of the original plug-in was low and feedback from customers was that they have a secure email solution that they already leverage to meet its use case.
Will the SEP Outlook Plug-in continue to be supported in SEP 14?
The SEP plug-in is still available for SEP 14, however, as customers move away from using this plug-in we will eventually remove support. No timeline has been determined.
How should customers protect themselves from email threats?
Many of our customers have email security solutions provided by email vendors. For those customers that do not, we recommend Symantec Email Security.
