VMware NSX

Issue/Introduction

  • VCF 9 is only compatible with ESX 9 hosts(Required).
  • VCF 9 Management domain is fully deployed on ESX 9 hosts.
  • The creation of a workload domain has been attempted and does not fully complete.
  • After attempting to remove the hosts from the cluster the workload domain still remains and contains a Edge

Environment

VCF 9

Cause

  • NSX is the underlying network agent in VCF9. The ESX 9 host image now includes the NSX VIBs.
  • ESX 8 and older do not have the NSX VIBs and therefore cannot be deployed with VCF 9 instances.
  • The work flows for VCF 9 expected the NSX VIBs to be found in the ESX image.
  • It cannot get them from the NSX managers as in previous legacy versions.
  • The Edge Cluster will need to be removed first.
  • Then the domain can be deleted.

Resolution

Edge Cluster Deletion

Workload Domain Deletion

  • This part is done in the VC Ops appliance.
  1. Power Off the VLCM appliance that is present in the workload domain.
If this is leff on it will stall on the cluster compliance check task.

  2. Navigate to Inventory ⇒ VCF Instances
  3. Once in VCF Instances window look for the workload domain at the bottom of the window.
    Select it.
Click the blue ACTIONS drop down menu and click Delete Domain.

This is what should be expected when the deletion is working.

  4. If the process gets stuck at 80% "Checking compliance of cluster with image just cancel that task.
  5. Domain removal should now complete.
