The vSphere Lifecycle Manager Image Compliance check on a Cluster fails with error "Host not compatible with the image" after restoring the configuration of a VMware vSphere ESXi host. The non-compliant component identified in the compliance check is "VMware-VM-Tools."
This issue occurs because VMware-VM-Tools (VMware Tools) is not included in the standard backup of an ESXi host configuration.
When an ESXi host is backed up, it only saves settings like network IPs, storage configurations, and passwords.
Because VMware-VM-Tools is an add-on software package (a VIB), it does not get backed up. When the host turns back on after the restore, vLCM checks it against the master blueprint, realizes the Tools package is missing, and marks the host as rule-breaking (non-compliant).
To resolve this issue, remediate the host to bring it back into compliance with the cluster image:
1. Log in to the vSphere Client.
2. Navigate to the affected cluster.
3. Select the Updates tab, then select Hosts > Image.
4. Locate the Image Compliance card.
5. Select the affected host and click Remediate to install the missing components
