Issue/Introduction

  • default date in the vCenter Events page of the vSphere Client is fixed to a specific date instead of the current date.
  • When the Date Range is changed to the current time using the filter, recent events are retrieved without any issue.
  • The event partition for the current date can be verified in the vpx_event_partition_lookup table of the VCDB.

Environment

vCenter Server

Cause

The issue is suspected to be an error in the default time filter applied when viewing Events in the vSphere Client.

Resolution

Resetting the vCenter Server's time via the VAMI (vCenter Server Management Interface) is expected to reset the default date filter for the Events view in the vSphere Client.

To change the vCenter Server's time synchronization mode to reset the Event view's default time basis.

Workaround :

  1. Access the vCenter VAMI (usually at https://[vCenter_FQDN_or_IP]:5480).

  2. Temporarily change the Time Synchronization Mode to Deactivated:

    • Navigate to the Time settings in the VAMI.

    • Change the time synchronization mode to Deactivated.

    • Verify the Events: Check the vSphere Client Event view again (Step 2).

  3. Restore the Time Synchronization Mode to NTP (or preferred method):

    • Change the time synchronization mode back to NTP (or the previously configured setting).

    • Verify the Events: Check the vSphere Client Event view one final time to ensure the default filter is now current (Step 4).

By performing this cycle, the vCenter's internal time references are refreshed, which is expected to correct the default time filter issue in the vSphere Client Event monitor.
