VCF Operations/Automation (formerly VMware Aria Suite) VCF Operations VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.x

Issue/Introduction

Users attempting to deploy a new independent VCF Operations for Logs 9.0.1.0 cluster using Aria Suite Lifecycle (LCM) 8.18.0.0 Patch 5 may encounter configuration requirements regarding Fleet Management.

LCM deployment of VCF Operations for Logs 9.0.1 requires the Fleet Management component to be connected to VCF Operations from the Admin UI. If this connection is not established or desired, users may need to deploy the cluster manually.

Customer context and synonyms:

  • "How do I install a new independent Aria Logs cluster 9.0.1.0 with existing LCM 8.18?"
  • "Deployment of VCF Operations for Logs 9.0.1 via LCM failing on Fleet Management connection."

Environment

  • VCF Operations for Logs 9.0.1.x
  • VCF Operations 9.0.1.x
  • Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.18.x

Cause

Aria Suite Lifecycle (LCM) requires the Fleet Management component to facilitate the deployment of VCF Operations for Logs 9.0.1 when integrated with VCF Operations. If the Fleet Management connection cannot be established, the automated LCM deployment cannot proceed.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, deploy the VCF Operations for Logs cluster manually using the OVA file via vCenter Server, then configure the integration within VCF Operations.

If Fleet Management is not available for the VCF Operations for Logs cluster deployment , typically in VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF) environments, follow the general steps below to deploy the cluster manually:

For complete detailed steps and additional information see Deploying the VCF Operations for logs Appliance for VMware vSphere Foundation

Prerequisite: Deploy VCF Operations for Logs Manually

  1. Download the OVA
  2. Deploy the Primary Node
    • Log in to the vSphere Client.
    • Right-click the target inventory object and select Deploy OVF Template.
    • Follow the wizard prompts to deploy the primary node.
  3. Deploy Additional Nodes
    • Repeat the OVF deployment process for as many worker nodes as required (e.g., for a 3-node cluster).
  4. Configure the Cluster
    • Access the web interface of the primary node using its FQDN or IP address.
    • Follow the setup wizard to initialize the new cluster.
    • Join the additional worker nodes to the primary node to form the cluster.

Configuration: Manual Integration

Once the cluster is deployed, configure the connection in VCF Operations:

  1. Verify Management Integrations
    • Navigate to Administration > Management > Integrations.
    • Ensure the vCenter and/or VMware Cloud Foundation adapter is added and collecting data.

Note: If these adapters are not present, the Log Appliance Integration option in the next step may not be available.

  2. Configure Global Integration
    • Navigate to Administration > Control Panel > Operations-Logs Appliance Integration.

Note: This option is only available if using a VVF license

    • Enter the IP address or FQDN of the newly deployed VCF Operations for Logs cluster (VIP).
    • Enter the User Name (admin) and Password.

Note: Requires a VCF Operations for Logs Local User with Administration privilege

    • Click Validate Connection, then click Save.
