Migrating from VDC to VDC vCenter transfer failure in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

• Moving virtual machines (VMs) from a vCenter 7 organization VDC to a vCenter 8 organization VDC appears to complete in VMware Cloud Director without issue.
• The VMs appear in the correct location in VMware Cloud Director.
• Upon review of the underlying vSphere environments, some VMs remain in the source vSphere infrastructure.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

An issue in the underlying vSphere layers occurred, which prevented the VMs to complete the move as expected.

Resolution

If VMware Cloud Director is correct and is expecting the VMs to be in the destination resource pool, test moving the VMs to correct location in vSphere.
