Issue/Introduction

Multiple duplicates entries in VNA inventory.

We have duplicate entries in VNA inventory, due to which multiple alerts are being triggered. Need your assistance to remove such entries.

We have performed the resync for these models, still the duplicates are present.

They have the same name, IP and other details. The differences they show at first glance are distinct Creation Date times.

Environment

All supported Network Observability DX NetOps Spectrum systems integrated with Virtual Network Assurance (VNA)

Cause

Evidence suggests the VNA engine or gateway managing the plugin and it's models was deleted and readded. The evidence suggests it was done quickly, without allowing time for full model removal and cleanup from the initial removal.

When the changes was reverted, when the removed item was readded, it created new models that appear to be duplicates. They have all the same attributes with a few exceptions.

Old models have older Creation Date times, and use a gatewayUUID attribute value that represents the removed gateway.

Resolution

The solution is to remove the old models with older Creation Date attribute values. These will also be models using the gatewayUUID value the old removed gateway utilized. We'll run a Locater search for all models using the older gatewayUUID value and delete them.

  1. Identify a sample set of duplicate models.
  2. Identify the duplicate model that has an older Create Date.
    • Display the Creation Time column in the model list view
    • Display the createtime (attr ID 0x11b41) attribute value for the model via it's Attributes tab.
  3. For the older model with the older Create Date value, go to it's Attributes tab.
    • Find and view the value for the gatewayUUID (attr ID 0x ) attribute
    • Make note of the value
  4. Go to the Locater tab in the OneClick WebApp UI.
    • Create a search for models using the older gatewayUUID.
    • It should look something like this.

  5. Select all items in the list returned, right click on them and choose to Delete them.

When completed the duplicate items will be removed.
