Issue/Introduction

This article outlines how to accurately allocate storage for VMware Aria Operations nodes, either during the initial deployment or after installation using the vROps Sizer Tool: vRealize Sizing Tool

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

If the Aria Operations nodes are not allocated the disk space recommended by the sizing tool, the /storage/db partition may continuously fill up, eventually leading to node instability or crashes.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to correctly allocate disk space for Aria Operations nodes:

  1. Select the version of Aria Operations you plan to deploy or resize, along with the appropriate sizing guide (Basic or Advanced).

Note: Use Basic if you are only monitoring vCenter objects.

  2. Enter the required parameters such as the number of vCenter Servers, Data Centers, ESXi hosts, Datastore etc usage to receive accurate sizing recommendations.

  3. Optionally configure additional settings like time-series data retention, high availability, and more. (The default time series data retention period is 6 months.)

Below is an example showing sample input:

  4. Based on the example provided above, the sizing output recommends deploying two medium-sized nodes, each with a 1005 GB disk.
