Exporting CA PAM sessio recording files to a different format

Issue/Introduction

Due to PAM being decommissioned or any other reason, a customer may want to save the session recording files to a common format (e.g. mp4) to be kept for some time independently of PAM

The question comes whether this is possible

Resolution

As of December 2025 this is not possible. Session recording in PAM, for any of its components (RDP, VNC or SSH) is stored in a proprietary format and encrypted with PAM key and session recording keys and hence they cannot be decripted or exported to any other format.

If session recordings need to be available then a CA PAM instance which has the right keys (for instance a node of a former cluster to which these session recordings belonged) must be kept running
