Issue/Introduction

Customers using Broadcom DX NetOps Performance Management may observe an unexpected reduction in their non-SNMP license count as reported by the NetOps portal. This can occur even when there has been no apparent change in the monitored inventory. For instance, a report might show a reduction of approximately 400 non-SNMP licenses (as observed in a November report) without any corresponding de-provisioning of devices. This leads to an inconsistency between the expected and reported license usage.

Environment

  • Broadcom DX NetOps Performance Management (NetOps Portal).
  • Any version where license reporting is used for non-SNMP elements.

Cause

The NetOps portal's license usage reporting relies on periodic synchronization and re-evaluation of all managed elements. While incremental updates occur frequently, a comprehensive re-assessment of all licensed components (especially non-SNMP ones, which can be derived from various sources like virtualization managers, application agents, etc.) might not happen without a full synchronization process.

If the system experiences minor glitches, data processing delays, or if new components are introduced that subtly alter how non-SNMP elements are identified (even if not explicitly counted as new inventory), the reported count can become stale or misaligned until a full reconciliation is triggered.

Resolution

  1. Access the Data Aggregator (DA) Administration Interface: Log into the web interface of your Data Aggregator.
  2. Initiate a Full Synchronization/Rediscovery:
    • Navigate to the section responsible for managing data sources or inventory (e.g., "Data Sources," "Discovery Profiles," or "Inventory").
    • Identify the option to trigger a "Full Synchronization," "Rediscover All," or similar. The exact wording and location may vary slightly depending on your specific NetOps version and configuration.
    • Execute the full synchronization.
  3. Monitor Synchronization Progress: Ensure the full synchronization process completes successfully.
  4. Verify License Count: Generate a new license usage report in the NetOps portal and verify that the non-SNMP license count is now consistent with your actual inventory.

Additional Information

  • A full synchronization is a powerful troubleshooting step for license count inconsistencies when no explicit inventory changes have occurred..
