Error: "Failure: Error downloading manifest. Please contact your vendor" when trying to upgrade Cloud Director to 10.6.x

Issue/Introduction

When you are trying to upgrade the VMware Cloud Director (VCD) to 10.6.x you get the below error:

Failure: Error downloading manifest. Please contact your vendor. URL rejected: No host part in the URL URL: /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer/update/manifest/manifest-latest.xml

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

The issue happens because you did not provide the correct path for local-update-package directory as the update repository.

Resolution

For workaround use the correct path to set the local-update-package directory as the update repository. For example: 

vamicli update --repo file:///tmp/local-update-package
