Issue/Introduction

  • While trying to vMotion on Select Network page you see the below error:-

vMotion: vMotion interface 'vss:vMotion' on the "Destination" host (NAME) does not have any operational physical network connections.

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 8.x
  • VMware vCenter Server 7.x

Cause

The destination vMotion kernel interface doesn't have any uplink assigned or the Standard Switch hosting the vMotion kernel interface is missing the uplink/VMNIC's

Resolution

To resolve the issue, review the configuration of the VMkernel adapter hosted by the Standard Switch.

  1. Verify you can ping between the vMotion Networks by using command mentioned below:

vmkping -I vmkX destination_vMotion_IP (X is the vmotion kernel number)

  2. Verify if the destination ESXi host vMotion Kernel connected to the vSwitch has required VMNIC's

ESXi Host Name > Networking > Virtual Switches > Expand the vSwitch - verify if there are uplink(vmnic) assigned.
