Issue/Introduction

Symtoms:

  • On a newly deployed vSphere replication appliance when trying to replicate any VM this error is encountered :

" A generic error occurred in the vSphere Replication Management Server. Exception details: 'com.vmware.vim.sso.client.exception.InternalError: Failed trying to retrieve token: ns0:RequestFailed: EndTime: Wed Aug 15 08:00:01 GMT 2012 is not after startTime: Sat Dec 06 12:30:30 GMT 2025'."

  • vSphere replication appliances are paired successfully between the sites.
  • vCenter Server, vSphere Replication servers use the same NTP server with no time drift observed across the sites.

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 9.x

Cause

This issue can occur when the deployed vSphere Replication instance is not compatible with the vCenter Server version.

Resolution

Ensure that the vSphere Replication deployment is fully compatible with the vCenter Server by verifying and aligning both products according to the VMware Interoperability Matrix. If incompatibility is identified redeploy a compatible version of the vSphere Replication appliance .
