vSphere Replication Management Server could not establish connection to vSphere Replication Server

Issue/Introduction

VLSR UI displays these errors when untagged hosts are placed in maintenance mode.



The hosts are disconnected under the Replication Servers tab 

Environment

VMware Live Site Recovery 9.x 

Cause

VRMS(HMS) contacts the hbrsrvuw residing in the ESXi hosts to assess their health thereby replacing the hbrsrv in the VRMS appliance versions 8.x and below at the transport endpoint for replication of data. VRMS selects a host for replication and rebalancing based on this health status; a healthy status indicates the host is suitable for replication, while a disconnected status means it cannot be used. VRMS performs a health check on the hbrsrvuw every 30 seconds via port 443 and it takes time depending on the number of ESXi hosts in the vCenter inventory. 

Therefore, when the hosts are placed in maintenance mode, this check fails resulting in the error displayed by VLSR UI. 

Resolution

The errors will disappear slowly upon the removal of hosts from maintenance mode.
