Issue/Introduction

  • Former LifeCycle Manager depot URLs hostupdate.vmware.com have been disabled
  • New download token URLs have been updated and are enabled
  • The vCenter UI shows the following error:

A general system error occurred: Cannot download VIB 'https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/esx/vmw/vib20/esxio-update/VMware_bootbank_esxio-update_8.0.3-0.70.24674464.vib'. This might be because of network issues or the specified VIB does NOT exist or does NOT have a proper 'read' privilege set. Make sure the specified VIB exists and is accessible from vCenter Server.

Cause

This issue occurs when the hostupdate.vmware.com URLs were enabled at the time the Update Manager service starts. The Update Manager service continues to reference these URLs.

Resolution

  • Ensure the hostupdate.vmware.com URLs have been disabled
  • Restart the Update Manager service
    1. SSH to vCenter via root
    2. Restart the Update Manager service:

      service-control --restart vmware-updatemgr
