Issue/Introduction

  • You have an Organization backed by multiple VDCs but you cannot remove a specific VDC.
  • You need to delete an org VDC without deleting the catalog.
  • When you attempt to remove a VDC you get an error
    • Error: "You must remove all catalog items backed by this VDC before you can delete it. Here are the first ## (out of ## catalog items) backed by this VDC" when deleting Organization VDC

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

Cause

vApps and ISOs when created reference the VDC even though they are an Org Level Object.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Content Hub -> Catalogs and create a new catalog for that organization.
  2. Select the option 'Create on a specific storage policy?'.
  3. Choose the Org VDC that the customer wants to keep.
  4. Select the Storage Policy you wish to move the content to.
  5. Go to the old catalog that is blocking the Org VDC deletion.
  6. For each object, select the 'move to ...' option and choose the newly created catalog
  7. The items will be moved both in vCenter and in the database.
  8. Verify in VC that the items are moved.
  9. Delete the Org VDC.
