Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter Server is located on vSAN datastore.
  • After a vSAN cluster shutdown via vSphere Client, you power-on only the orchestration host
  • You power-on other hosts after a delay from the orchestration host's startup.
  • Even after all hosts completed powered-on, the vCenter Server did not start automatically.

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.0 U3

VMware vSAN 8.0

Cause

This issue is caused by delayed startup interval between the orchestration host and the other hosts.
The orchestration host checks if the other hosts are available after it is booted.
This interval causes the check failure due to timeout.
The failure due to timeout prevents the subsequent task such as startup of the vCenter Server from processing.

Resolution

You need to powered-on ESXi host simultaneously after a vSAN cluster shutdown.
