Issue/Introduction

There are times when you need to create a new project in CA Harvest SCM using all same the states, processes and access settings you already have in an existing project.  Rather than rebuild all that detail from the beginning, there is an easy way to just copy the lifecycle settings of an existing project to create a new one.

Environment

Harvest Software Change Manager all versions

Resolution

Step 1: Create a new Lifecycle Template from the original project by copying it to the Lifecycle Template section.

  1. In the Administrator Tool, go to the Lifecycles tab, expand your broker name and the “Active Projects” folder.  Locate the name of the project you want to copy, right click and select “Copy To…”.

  2. In the Copy Project window type the name of the project template you are creating, then click “OK”.
  3. Your new Lifecycle Template will appear under the “Lifecycle Templates” folder.

Step 2: Copy the new lifecycle template back to the Active Projects section under the new project name.

  1. In the Administrator Tool, go to the Lifecycles tab, expand your broker name and the “Lifecycle Templates” folder.  Locate the name of the project you want to copy, right click and select “Copy To…”.

  2. In the Copy Project window type the name of the project template you are creating, then click “OK”.

  3. Your new project will appear under the “Active Projects” folder.

Step 3: Create a new repository for the new project.

  1. On the Repositories tab, right click on the Broker name and select “New Repository…”.

  2. On the Repository Properties window type the name of your new repository and click OK.
  3. Your new repository will appear in the listing on the Repositories tab.

Step 4: Add the new repository to the baseline for the new project.

  1. Go to the Lifecycles tab, expand your broker name and the “Active Projects” folder.  Locate the name of your new project and expand the project and the “Data Views” folder.  Right click on “Baseline” and select “Configure Baseline”.

  2. On the Configure Baseline window, locate the name of your new repository in the “Availale Repository/Vew List”, select it and click the “Add” button.

  3. On the Confirm Add window click “OK”

  4. The Selected Repository List will show that your new repository has been selected as the baseline for your new project.  Click “Close”

  5. Back on the Lifecycles tab, you will now see your new repository listed on the right.

All steps are now complete and the new project is ready for use.
