gpfdist.exe Fails to Start on Windows After Installing Greenplum Client 6.30.x / 6.31.x — Missing event.dll

Issue/Introduction

When installing Greenplum Database Windows Client Tools version 6.30.x or 6.31.x, the utility gpfdist.exe fails to start.

The following error message is displayed:

The code execution cannot proceed because event.dll was not found
event.dll was not found

 

 

Environment

GPDB 6.30.x and newer (6.31.1)

Cause

In Greenplum Windows Client versions 6.30.x and newer(6.31.1), the event.dll dependency is missing from the packaged MSI installer.

Resolution

Workaround:

Rolling back the client tools to Greenplum Clients 6.29.X or lower will resolve the issue. 

Permanent fix:

R&D will fix the build environment to include the missing DLL.

The packaging fix is scheduled for:

• GPDB 7.7 

• Fix will also be added for GPDB 6, it will become available in the next planned GPDB 6 release (date TBD)
